I've tweaked the speed quarter and given it some teeth. I was having trouble with the computer on All-Madden level -- it passes with excessive accuracy. So I made some changes that make this formation lethal.

I left the DLs and LBs untouched, but I moved the CBs and Safeties around.

(1) I dropped the rover back deeper to allow him to better play deep coverage if needed. He currenlty lines up in the centre and four squares behind the LBs (three squares in between).

(2) I moved the safeties out wider to allow them better coverage on corner routes.

(3) THE BIG CHANGE: I moved the inside corners right up to the line of scrimmage and five squares outside the DEs (four squares between). This allows them perfect access to the backfield -- and the quarterback -- and they can cut sweeps down or chase them far side. Crashing the DE, LB and CB on one side is too much for any Tackle. This blitz strategy works best on an exposed Tackle(ie no TE) unsupported by a back in pass protection. It's lethal and gives the QB no time.

(4) The outside CBs line up three squares out from the inside CBs (two squares in between) and one square of the line of scrimmage.

It's a high risk high reward formation, but there are a lot of coverage schemes possible and the corners perched just outside the tackles are a constant threat to the quarterback. I haven't used it against a human opponent, but I imagine it would be quite unnerving -- those CBs come in quick, much faster than from the far outside. Give it a try if you want a new way to defend the pass.

Cheers,

Aaron

Hi aaron, these modifications sound interesting. Would you care to post them in a diagram? You can use the template at

http://monsterden.net/maddentalk/viewtopic.php?t=192

and just fill in C's for CBs, F for FS, S for SS and R for the rover (middle safety).

Also, do you use the standard plays, or mostly your own creations. it would be great to see them.
