I think our prayers have been answered. EA is coming out with a new strategy game, NFL Head Coach. I think it's a lot more extensive than Madden in the Xs and Os and draft stuff. Released in the spring. I know I'm getting it. Any thoughts?

Well I just checked out the brief description on EA's website. It might be interesting, but personally I don't care much about the coaching aspects of Madden except for playbooks. Drafting players, signing free agents, running practices, getting stadium deals, none of that does much for me in Madden. I have a feeling that NFL Head Coach is just going to be an expanded version of Franchise mode, with less emphasis on actual play in the game.

The playbook support ptobably will be better, but I also like to actually run the plays. If the player controls are simplified I'm worried that it will just tradeoff the strategy aspect for the "stick" aspects, which I also enjoy. Plus, in current versions of Madden I can run a Franchise but skip all the management parts of the game. In this game that probably won't be possible, so even if playbook support is much better I'd have to deal with a lot of other stuff I don't really care to.

I'll reserve judgement until I learn more, but considering EA's track record in addressing real user complaints I'm not going to hold my breath on this.

You're probably right. EA doesn't usually do anything to help one area without killing another.
