How do you effectively run from the shotgun? I have had trouble with the QB just standing there for a couple of seconds. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks. _________________ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- |

Recently I collected a large number of specialty plays including play actions, draws, reverses, hb passes and so on thinking I might develop some of these plays in my next playbook, and knowing that I needed to start with existing plays as a base because it is impossible to create such plays directly in Madden.
Anyway, I tried a few different runs out of shotgun formation and could not get any to work. These weren't even modified plays, just stock plays copied into a custom playbook. The problem was just like you describe: the QB stands motionless for a few seconds, and then if is not tackled will finally start moving and run the ball himself. If looks like custom shotgun runs cannot be done in Madden 2004 (if anyone has tried 2003 please post, although I doubt anyone really would care this seems glitchy enough that it may be something that worked at one point and simply no one noticed it was broke). |

On the playbook that I'm working on, I took Shotgun-Trips and a few of the plays and modified the formation, but I didn't modify the QB and HB positions. All the running plays work for me. But when I move the HB or QB, the HB runs past the QB and the QB is sacked or he tucks the ball and attempts to run it himself. But they should work if you don't modify there positions. |

I should have posted an update to this topic a while ago. I've found that you can run from a shotgun as long as the RB is lined up deeper than the QB. The timing of the RB step is important because if it's too quick or the RB is too close to the QB he may try to take the handoff before the QB has the ball. Delays work pretty well for this reason. |

It's difficult, but I've made successful runs on my own from the shotgun, actually from my Wiz Gun formation. I may post it sometime soon, so I won't say more but will leave the exact details up to the reader
Pitches are also pretty easy, I believe, because the timing does not need to be so accurate. Also, check out PimpDaddyPat's entry in the GPS, it has a non-pitch, non built-in running play shotgun handoff:

So do i. My QB justs runs around like he's paused in a handoff position _________________ It feels great to live in the heart of Big Blue Nation. And I don't mean Duke |
